HomeAssistant privacy policy

About this integration
HomeAssistant is Sean Van de Riet's personal connection between Google Nest and a private Home Assistant installation. It supports home-climate monitoring, thermostat control, configured schedules, and assistance with the installation. It is not offered for public registration.

Information accessed and used
With the owner's Google authorization, the connection accesses authorized home, room, and device identifiers and names, thermostat temperature and humidity, operating state, and supported settings. Home Assistant uses this information to display conditions and history, run configured automations, and send authorized thermostat commands through Google's Smart Device Management API. Home Assistant maintains the authorization credentials needed for the connection.

Storage and retention
Home Assistant runs on the owner's equipment and uses its default local recorder configuration. Detailed entity history is configured for daily automatic cleanup with a ten-day retention setting. Cleanup runs on a schedule, not at the exact moment each record reaches ten days. Temperature and humidity statistics are stored separately and currently have no automatic expiration; they remain until separately removed through Home Assistant's statistics controls. Operational logs may contain diagnostic information.

Removing Google access does not automatically erase previously recorded information. Home Assistant history and statistics must be managed separately, and information already provided to connected services follows those services' handling and controls.

Connected services

The owner has enabled an OpenAI assistant to access authorized Home Assistant information for monitoring, troubleshooting, and assistance. Information provided can include device names and identifiers, conditions and settings, timestamps, and relevant recorded history. This information is processed outside the local Home Assistant installation. OpenAI's handling and retention depend on the applicable service terms, privacy policy, and account controls, not Home Assistant's recorder settings. This personal integration is used for the home functions described here, not to sell Nest information or provide advertising services.

Access and deletion
The owner can review or remove access through Google Account connections at https://myaccount.google.com/linkedapps and manage Nest device permissions at https://nestservices.google.com/partnerconnections . Removing access can stop monitoring, schedules, and thermostat-control features that depend on the connection.

Previously recorded information must be handled separately through Home Assistant's storage controls and the relevant connected-service controls. Removing one connection does not automatically delete information held elsewhere. Privacy questions or requests can be sent to sean@vanderiet.net.
